Morecambe boss Jim Bentley is bidding to bring in an attacking midfielder during the loan window.

Chairman Peter McGuigan has given his manager the green light to make a signing with a handful of moves so far coming to nothing.

Unlike at the start of the January transfer window, Bentley doesn’t need players to leave the club before adding to a side that currently sits five points off the League 2 play-offs ahead of Dagenham & Redbridge’s visit to the Globe Arena on Sunday.

He said: “I’ve had a chat with the chairman and he’s backed me in the respect that if I want to bring someone in I can do.
“I’ve got full trust in the squad here but I do always like a fresh face to come in because it keeps people on their toes.

“We have enquired about three or four from League 1 clubs but for one reason or another they haven’t happened whether it be they don’t want to move, the location or a manager having a change of heart,

“We did have to get players out at the start of January but now I might be able to bring one in.

“But I don’t want to bring someone in just to sit on the bench or feel that I’ve got to play him because he’s in on loan.

“I don’t want a squad player, I want someone to come in and affect the first team.

“With Tom McCready going out and Ryan Williams looking like he might leave at one point we identified a few attacking midfielders.

“We’ve hit a few brick walls in that regards but we’ll continue to search.”
