Saturday’s defeat at Vale Park was the second in three games for the Shrimps, having previously lost at Cambridge United on Good Friday.

However, despite only taking one point from the last nine available – last Tuesday’s draw against Southend United – they remained fifth in the League Two table with half-a-dozen games remaining.

The first of those comes tonight when Scunthorpe United visit the Mazuma Stadium (6.30pm).

That starts a run of three games in four on home soil with Oldham Athletic their visitors this weekend and Bolton Wanderers making the trip a week on Saturday, April 24.

With a four-point gap to third-placed Bolton and teams below them closing in – five of them with a game in hand – Morecambe are looking for a return to winning ways this evening.

Adams said: “It’s fantastic that we are fifth in the table at this stage of the season and pushing for promotion.

“I’m delighted to be the manager of the club and in the position we are in, which is fantastic.

“I am receiving a lot of messages by email or letter from supporters who are delighted with the football we are playing, delighted with the position we are and delighted with the players’ attitude and that is great.

“They are delighted with the whole concept of what we have brought to the football club and delighted with the position we are in.”

The Shrimps have been in and around the top seven for much of the season with Adams keen to highlight his players’ performances in achieving that.

He said: “We are punching above our weight, we all know that, and it just shows you that a bit of organisation and a bit of team spirit can take you far.

“There are no easy games and we are just going to give it our best and see where it takes us.

“If it is automatic promotion, then we will take that, and if it is the play-offs, we will take that too.

“Every game is an important one as we look to end the season as high as possible.”
