Tonight’s League Two match (6pm) sees Morecambe aim to consolidate their top-six spot against an Exeter side two places and as many points behind them in the table.

Both sides go into the game on the back of weekend wins, Morecambe having defeated Colchester United 3-0 and Exeter beating Stevenage 3-1 in one of Saturday’s earlier kick-offs.

Adams said: “It’s a difficult one for us.

“Exeter started at 1pm on Saturday, they are at home and we are away from home.

“We go there confident because we have put ourselves into sixth position in the league: a good home performance against Colchester has allowed us to do that.

“We go into the game against Exeter, who themselves had a very good home victory.”

Tonight’s game will be the second midweek meeting between the two sides this season.

Twelve weeks ago, it was Exeter making the long journey north for a game which ended 2-2.

A win tonight would see the home side leapfrog Morecambe into the play-off places, though victory for Adams’ players – and results elsewhere going in their favour – could see them climb into the automatic promotion spots.

However, Adams believes his players have a stern test on their hands if they are to come away with three points.

He said: “They (Exeter) are a good side, they pass the ball really well.

“They have a number of very talented players and we know how difficult a game it’s going to be.

“We go there in a very confident mood because of how well we have done in the league this season. It’s got the makings of a good game.”

Morecambe also have extra knowledge of Exeter’s strengths following the arrival of loan keeper Jokull Andresson.

The 19-year-old, who joined Morecambe from Reading on an emergency seven-day loan last week, had a similar spell with Exeter earlier this season.

He was one of their standout players during November’s stalemate and impressed on his Morecambe debut against Colchester.

“He came in on Friday night and hadn’t trained with the players,” Adams said of the Finn.

“He made a couple of good saves, he was very vocal, but he hadn’t trained with the team.

“It wasn’t an easy one for him but he acquitted himself really well. He understood his role in the team and he has settled in very quickly.”
