The next step in the Shrimps’ promotion challenge sees them travel to play a Port Vale team which has won its last five matches – the club’s best league run for 11 years.

Those results under new boss Darrell Clarke have seen Vale climb to 15th, a huge turnaround for a side that had faced a relegation battle.

Morecambe go into the game on the back of their midweek draw against Southend United, a result which moved them up to fifth and a point off third place with seven games to go.

Morecambe put transfer talk to one side amid promotion battle

“We’re really looking forward to it,” Adams said of tomorrow’s match.

“I think we’re in a fantastic position after a good point against Southend and now we go to one of the form teams in League Two.

“Port Vale are a side that’s always pushing to get promotion and they have done really well to get five wins from their last five games.

“To go from 35 points to 50 so quickly is a fantastic achievement and they have put themselves higher up the table.”

Jordan Slew (fractured fibula) and A-Jay Leitch-Smith (calf and hamstring injuries) are the only absentees for the Shrimps tomorrow.

Yann Songo’o and Liam Gibson will both be eligible for selection again after completing their respective suspensions.

Songo’o has sat out the last four games but the Easter double-header means he will be back quicker than would have been the case in a conventional fixture programme.

Adams said: “We have missed him, he’s been a very good player for us this season.

“He has played in a position that’s important to the style of play we have.

“With us playing Friday and Tuesday, that’s quickly eaten up the time he’s been out.”
