Morecambe boss looks forward to facing Forest Green Rovers as third meets fourth

Derek Adams is relishing the challenge ahead as third play fourth in League Two this evening.

Adams’ Morecambe players make the trip to Forest Green Rovers tonight (7pm), knowing that victory will see them leapfrog their hosts into third place.

The Shrimps go into the game on the back of four wins from five, with victories against Crawley Town and Carlisle United in the last week.

Tonight’s hosts were also successful at the weekend, winning at Grimsby Town, and can also complete the league double over Morecambe after October’s 2-1 victory at the Mazuma Stadium.

Morecambe were victorious against Carlisle United at the weekend

Rovers are one of only three sides to have defeated Morecambe at home in League Two this season and Adams has no doubt as to what lies in store tonight.

He said: “We go to a team who are one of the best footballing teams in the league.

“They pass the ball well, they have some talented players and they gave us a good game last time.

“I watched their game against Southend (3-1 defeat) and I thought they played very well.

“It’s a nice venue to go to, the pitch is in very good condition and we’ve got to be looking forward to it.

“Forest Green play some really good stuff and so do we, so I’m sure it will be end-to-end, much like the Crawley game.”

While Morecambe have the third best home record in League Two this season, their away results have also been similarly impressive.

Seven wins and three draws have come on the road, helping them into a position where they can dare to dream of challenging for League One.

It’s a huge contrast to this time last year when, just before the season was curtailed, they were third-bottom with seven wins from 37 matches.

Adams said: “We’re in a position where we are 26 points ahead of the second-bottom team.

“I think that’s an outstanding achievement at this stage of the season, whereas last year was a different story.

“We’ve put ourselves in a great position. We’ve picked up 16 wins, which is nearly 50 per cent (success rate), so to do that at this stage is very positive.”
