Jamie Devitt’s stunner cancelled out Luke Summerfield’s goal to ensure as the Minstermen finished bottom of the Football League with the 1-1 draw.

Bentley, whose side finished 21st, said: “We all wanted the final day win and it’s what the fans deserved.

“Jamie Devitt scored a fantastic goal and we rode our luck because they had a couple of good chances.

“We had a couple too and you’re just willing Paul Mullin to go through and burst the net late on and give us a 2-1 win.

“It was important that we didn’t get beaten though and in the end it was a fair result."

Despite a disappointing second half of the season Bentley felt securing a 10th season in the Football League was something to be celebrated.

Bentley said: “There’s been a bit of flack flying around recently, some of which was justified and some of its not.

“It’s a results business and in the second half of the season since mid-January we haven’t been good enough.

“I’m the first to admit that and there have been a lot of factors in that most that people know about and some that they don’t.

“It’s been very tough for one reason or another but at the end of the day next season we’ll go into our 10th season in the Football League which is a great achievement.”
