“The competitive stuff is in a couple of weeks and we want to get as close as we can to that.

“The referee had to ask the managers to take off players after some feisty tackles and there were a couple of square ups.

“It was tough opposition but I thought we acquitted ourselves well.

“We can do better but there were some really good signs so overall I’m pretty pleased.”

The game also marked the return of Jack Redhshaw to the Globe Arena, the recently departed striker captaining his new club.

Bentley said: “He got in once which was more down to our poor play but we snuffed him out in the end.

“It was nice to see Jack back and it was a good performance by both teams so I’m pleased.”

Paul Mullin returned to the Morecambe side for the game after missing the Bury friendly with a tight thigh.

Trialist Shaun Miller also played the final half an hour as Bentley looks for a replacement for Redshaw.
