The Shrimps’ new-look squad took on Manchester United’s youngsters in the club’s first game since losing at Newport County AFC in early March.

Since then, a host of players have departed the Shrimps with nine new arrivals.

“It was a good workout for us,” Adams said of last Saturday’s match.

“We were able to get a good number of our players into the game and it was good to get them out on the pitch.

“We’d been back in pre-season for three weeks and, to be fair to the players, they have looked good.

“It was a bit of a shock to the system in that we’d been training on an artificial surface and then the game was on grass, and it took a bit of time to get used to passing the ball again.

“It was good for the players to get out there and for the new players to get to know the ones who are here.”

Two of the nine arrivals, Burnley loanees Adam Phillips and Ryan Cooney, are well known after their spell with the Shrimps last season.

Adams is pleased at how the other seven have been made to feel at home by their new team-mates.

He said: “They have settled in very well and very quickly.

“It does take a bit of time but the rest of the squad have taken them into their group.”
