The Shrimps, without a game this Saturday, are just four points off the play-offs in 11th in the table, 12 points clear of the relegation zone.

Their form has been patchy of late however with Bentley keen to see his side build momentum ahead of a busy Christmas period.

Bentley said: “It’s been a little bit up and down.

“Everyone’s searching for that little bit of consistency but overall we’re not in a bad position.

“There’s still plenty to play for.

“We’re positive, we’re hoping to kick on and get over that 30 point mark as soon as possible and then trying to claw our way to 40 as quick as we can.

“It could be a little bit better but we’re not in a bad position.

“We wanted to be a little bit closer (to the top teams) but we’re in there.”

The Shrimps boss hopes a bigger squad will see his side avoid their traditional new year slump with Bentley knowing December is usually a month that is a test for any squad.

He said: “By the time the Luton game comes around I could have a real selection headache.

“The lads who came in against Stevenage did themselves no harm whatsoever in what I thought was a decent performance.

“The festive period’s always a busy period and the two games in three days against Carlisle and Hartlepool will take their toll and we’ll need the squad.

“We’ve got a couple of extra bodies this season and you need to dip into the squad because of injuries and suspensions like we did at Stevenage.”
