Ricardo Moniz brings his side to the Globe Arena on Saturday having overseen a major overhaul at Meadow Lane after the Magpies’ relegation from League 1.

They have failed to fire in the league this year but did impress in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night as they ran Aston Villa close before a 5-3 defeat in extra-time.

A squad that already included the likes of experienced front man Jon Stead has also been bolstered by the arrival of Izale McLeod for an undisclosed six-figure fee from Crawley this week.

Bentley said: “They’ve signed McLeod who is a top-class centre forward in the lower levels.

“He’ll be a big player for them. It looks like they’re going to play him alongside Stead.

“I think the way they played against Aston Villa typifies the way they’ve been so far, good going forwards and conceding a couple at the back.

“It’ll be a tough match for us. They’ve got a massive squad, quite a few of them are unknown to us with a manager I’ve not come across before.

“We always expect a tough game whoever we play at his level but it’s one that we want to win.

“We’re at home, coming off the back of a good performance at Portsmouth and want to get more points on the board.”

Bentley is hoping his side can build on a fine display at Pompey having found their scoring form in style in the 3-3 draw.

The Shrimps boss said: “We know it’s going to be tough but we’ve got good players and we’re in decent form.

“Although we’ve got the four points on the board it could have been a few more.

“We finally found our shooting boots on Saturday.

“There’s still work to do at the back but if we keep creating chances then we’ll score plenty of goals.

“Hopefully it’ll be our day on Saturday.”
