The Shrimps’ defensive woes continued with a 4-3 defeat at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday meaning they have now conceded 11 goals in their last three games.

Bentley said he would ideally dip into the loan market but a tight budget at the Globe Arena means he has to work with what he’s got.

He said: “It feels exactly the same as the last couple of games here.

“We’ve worked on things but the penny hasn’t dropped.

“If I could I’d go into the loan market and shake this group up because it needs it.

“We’re going to score goals that’s proven, we’re one of the league’s top scorers, but we’re the worst defensively.

“It’s not rocket science to know where we need to make improvements.

“They’re playing as individuals, there’s no aggression and determination to keep the ball out of the net, it’s just too easy.

“We’re being punished for every silly little error too which happens when you’re struggling.

“There are positives today, in Tom Barkhuizen I think we’ve got a very good player, he’s on five goals now and looked a threat.

“Shaun Miller came in and looked a threat but we know how to put the ball in one net but not how to keep it out of the other.

“That’s the worrying thing. We can’t feel sorry for ourselves though.

“We’ve got to stand up and be men and come out fighting.”
