Morecambe boss anticipates Carlisle United will prove stiff opposition

Derek Adams isn’t taking recent results for granted when Morecambe come up against Carlisle United tomorrow.

The match at the Mazuma Stadium features two teams enjoying vastly different form of late.

Tuesday’s win over Crawley Town made it three in the last four matches for the Shrimps, who sit fifth in League Two, while Saturday’s visitors have lost five of their last six.

That run has seen them drop to 12th in the table, though previous postponements mean they have as many as four games in hand.

“Carlisle have done really well to put themselves in the position they are in,” Adams said.

“They have games in hand on the majority of teams in the division, they have some very talented players and it’s a derby, which is always nice.”

Morecambe go into the game on the back of beating Crawley, albeit awaiting the outcome of a scan on the knee injury picked up by Blackburn Rovers loanee Brad Lyons.

Nat Knight-Percival is set to be absent with the ankle ligament injury he sustained during last week’s victory against Salford City.

Whoever is chosen, the Shrimps will be aiming to avoid a repeat of the game at Carlisle in October.

They lost 3-1 on an evening when Adams’ best laid plans were ripped up after Morecambe conceded twice within the opening three minutes.

A win tomorrow wouldn’t only help to atone for that defeat but would also keep the Shrimps well placed in a division where only 10 points separate the top 10 sides.

“It was an unbelievable start to the game,” Adams said of the loss at Brunton Park.

“We have to try and rectify that but we are in good form and we are looking forward to the game.”
