Morecambe assistant boss Ken McKenna wants to see The Shrimps score more goals from midfield.
The Shrimps have been targeting an attacking midfielder in the Football League’s loan window but have so far been frustrated.
We’ve got the back sorted but we need to try and get someone into the box a little bit more from the middle of the park
McKenna and boss Jim Bentley look set to stick with their preferred three centre back system at Luton on Saturday with it having brought more success on the road than at home in recent weeks.
The pair however want to see more attacking intent from the middle of the park.
McKenna said: “It seems to be working okay in some games but we’re a little bit inconsistent at times.
“We’ve got two fantastic wing backs and when we can get them pushed on we look a threat from wide areas.
“The three have done well and we’re looking solid at the back.
“The reason we went to it was because we were struggling conceding goals.
“We’ve tightened that up and it’s just tweaking it and seeing if we can get someone from midfield into the box to try and get a couple of goals.
“Defensively away from home I think there’s only Wycombe with a better defensive record.
“We’ve got the back sorted but especially at home with this system we need to try and get someone into the box a little bit more from the middle of the park.
“The forwards have done alright scoring goals it’s just midfield where we need more energy and a couple of goals.”
The Shrimps have a near fully fit squad to pick from ahead of the trip to Luton with long-term absentee Barry Roche the only player missing.
