Morecambe’s Scottish midfielder Gary McDonald has moved back north of the border to join St Johnstone.

The 31-year-old joins the Scottish Premier League side on a one-year deal having turned down a new deal with the Shrimps on reduced terms.

The former Kilmarnock, Aberdeen and Hamilton Academicals man is one of a group of players to leave the Globe Arena due to budget cuts.

He won’t have to wait long to be reacquainted with his old team mates however with the Shrimps visiting McDiarmid Park for a pre-season friendly on Saturday, July 27.

York City announced the signing of Shrimps target Wes Fletcher on Thursday after the former Burnley striker turned down a move to Jim Bentley’s side. Former Morecambe loanee Chris Kettings also joined the Minstermen on a season-long from Blackpool.
