Morecambe’s Luke Conlan played the full 90 minutes as Northern Ireland’s U21s lost 3-1 to their Scotland counterparts on Tuesday afternoon.

Accrington Stanley striker Shay McCartan had given the visitors an early lead in a game played at St Mirren’s Paisley 2021 Stadium but Scotland fought back to win the European Under-21 Championship qualifier 3-1.

Goals from Oliver McBurnie and a Jason Cummings brace after he had earlier missed a penalty saw the hosts to victory.

While Burnley loanee Conlan started at left back Shrimps new boy Darren McKnight was an unused substitute.

Jim Magilton’s side sit bottom of Group 3 after their latest defeat as the youngsters struggle to replicate the success of the senior Northern Ireland side.

They have just a draw in Iceland to show for their efforts from six qualifiers thus far.
