Lancaster City have made former Morecambe midfielder Garry Hunter their first signing of the summer.
The 28-year-old appeared more than 300 times for his home town club in a nine-year spell.
He was released in May 2012 and spent last season with Barrow as they were relegated from the Conference Premier division.
The deal represents something of a coup for the Dolly Blues after the departures of key men Danny Gregson and Darren Green to Evo-Stik First Division North rivals Northwich Victoria.
Director of football Mick Hoyle said: “Darren (Peacock, Lancaster City head coach) and I met Garry two and a half weeks ago and we were one of several clubs interested.
“But he’s got himself a job, has got married and wants to play locally.
“We’re absolutely delighted.”
The Dolly Blues have also added former Morecambe academy forward Simon Wearing to their squad after the players returned for pre-season training on Thursday night.
