Lancaster City’s Under 21s continued their fine debut season by lifting the first ever Lancashire FA Under 21 County Cup.

The Dolly Blues were 6-0 winners over Blackpool-based FC Rangers at the County Ground in Leyland on Monday night.

Will Fraser-Gray, who has featured for Phil Brown’s first team this season, and Joe Wearing, both scored twice with Rob Walker and Tom Knight also on target.

Manager Dan Parkinson said: “Our passing was sharp and the pitch was perfect for the way we play.

“We started well, as we often do, and went on to dominate the game.

“It’s great to win the first Under 21 county cup. Hopefully it’s the first of many.”

Fraser-Gray opened the scoring from the penalty spot just four minutes in, picking himself up after being tripped in the box.

His second came 10 minutes before the interval as the front man converted Rob Walker’s cross from close range.

It was three before the half-time interval with Fraser-Gray turning provider for Walker to score.

It wasn’t until the 73rd minute that further gloss was added to the scoreline as Knight made it four with Wearing scoring twice late on.

The first saw him round the ‘keeper before a calm finish with the second coming after a surging run into the box.

It could be a memorable debut year for the Giant Axe youngsters with the Dolly Blues also battling with Lytham Town to win the Lancashire FA County League title having been one of the founder members back in August.
