Lancaster City boss wants no regrets at end of final

The Dolly Blues take on holders Chorley in the final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy at the home of Bolton Wanderers on Monday night.

Matt Jansen’s side ply their trade two levels above City in the National League North but Brown wants his men to give it all they’ve got as they bid to lift the club’s first piece of silverware since the President’s Cup win of 2011.

The Blues boss, a former Chorley assistant, said: “It’s a cup final and anything can happen.

“They’ve got good players, play a couple of levels above us and have a big history.

“It’s going to be difficult for us but we’re not going in there scared.

“I don’t want them coming off the field at the end of the game with any regrets and thinking ‘if only’.

“I want them to leave it all out there.

“We believe we can win the game but are under no illusions it’s going to be a difficult challenge.”

There is plenty of familiarity between the sides with Chorley’s Andy Teague, Jordan Connerton and Paul Jarvis all having enjoyed successful spells with the Dolly Blues.

Brown himself knows the club well and insists there are areas his young side can exploit as they look to cause an upset.

He said: “I know Chorley pretty well.

“I’ve watched them a few times and came across them a fair bit when I was at Stockport.

“The manager has changed (Jansen replaced Garry Flitcroft this season) and there style of play has altered a little but the lads there are very, very similar.

“I know what we need to watch out for but I think there are areas we can exploit too.

“But it’s one thing knowing about these things and another dealing with them.

“It’s going to be difficult but I know we’ve got enough to get something out of the game.

“The lads believe that too. We’re not scared of Chorley. We’re obviously respectful but we’ll go into the game on the front foot.”
