Lancaster City’s pre-season began to gain some momentum on Saturday with an encouraging 3-3 draw against Evo-Stik Premier Division outfit Skelmersdale United at Giant Axe.

The visitors took an early lead through Dean Astbury before Ryan Winder’s accurate free kick brought the game level.

Ex-Kendal danger man Danny Mitchley regained the lead for Skem when he was quickest to react to a rebound and tap into an empty net on the half hour mark.

Early in the second half Conor McCarthy punished some slack defending from the Dolly Blues as his close range finish opened up a two-goal advantage for United.

Darren Peacock’s side however bounced back with an impressive display with Tom Woods rounding off a well-worked goal with a composed finish to bring the score to within one.

The equaliser late in the game came courtesy of a defence splitting pass from Aaron Taylor.

Winder was set through on goal by the City striker and saw his initial attempt well saved by ex-Lancaster stopper Martin Fearon but converted the rebound to draw the game level once more.

City had a chance to win it late on when Barbados international Raheim Sargeant’s shot was cleared off the line in the dying minutes but it ended honours even in a good pre-season workout for both sides.

The Dolly Blues’ final pre-season friendly sees them host another Evo-Stik Premier Division outfit Workington this Saturday, August 9.

They then kick off their season at home to Farsley seven days later.
