A Tom Kilifin brace fired Lancaster City to an impressive opening day win over Farsley on Saturday.
The club’s golden boot winner last season with 17 goals opened the scoring from the penalty spot on the quarter hour before adding a second three minutes before the break.
Aaron Taylor then all but made sure of a fine start to the season with a third four minutes after half-time.
Darren Peacock’s side started brightly with captain Neil Marshall sending a free header wide from a Ryan Winder corner.
And it wasn’t long before they were ahead as Kilifin kept his composure from 12 yards to open his account for the season after the Yorkshire side had been penalised for handball in the area.
Former Morecambe youngsters Tom Woods then hit a post when through on goal as the Blues dominated proceedings.
And the hosts had their second at Giant Axe shortly before the break as Billy Akrigg fed Kilifin who turned his man and slotted home his second with great aplomb.
Any hopes Farsley, who finished one place below City in seventh in the Evo-Stik First Division North last season, had of a comeback all but ended as Taylor made it three on 49 minutes.
Taking the loose ball, the big striker curled a shot into the top corner.
And there was no let up for the visitors as former Bolton Wanderers man Sam Bailey had a shot tipped round the post from range as the Lancaster-born youngster made his debut for his hometown club.
Farsley did have one chance of a consolation but it was all City’s doing as they nearly gifted the visitors a goal.
A mix-up between central defender Jacob Davis and the largely untested Mike Hale in the City goal let in Adam Priestley but the striker scuffed his shot allowing Gavin Clark to come back and clear the ball off the line.
