Lancaster boss Peacock: Things have got to change

The Dolly Blues shipped two goals inside the first quarter hour as they went down 2-0 at second in the Evo-Stik First Division North Droylsden on Saturday.

Peacock was again left to rue individual errors and was thankful for a rare free Tuesday night which afforded him more time to work on the mistakes ahead of the trip to Ossett Town on Saturday.

He said: “In the second half we battered them but it was the same old story.

“We’re never going to win games if we let teams go 2-0 up in the first 20 minutes.

“We’ve got to realise teams want to hurt us.

“I couldn’t wait for the first half to end and again we were having a go at them at half-time.

“It’s happening too often and things have got to change.”

Despite Droylsden’s lofty position in the table, the Dolly Blues more than matched them for long periods.

Peacock said: “I’ve said to the lads there’s only one team we’ve got to fear and that’s ourselves.

“We’re a good side but we keep making silly errors.

“We’re fighting ourselves rather than the other teams.

“It’s frustrating and annoying because I know we can do it.”

The “silly errors” were top of the agenda when Peacock took training on Monday night with another session to come tonight, Thursday, ahead of the trip to Yorkshire to face Ossett Town.

He said: “We’ve been able to work on what went wrong on Saturday.

“It’s the first chance we’ve had to do it for a while and it’s been good to tidy some things up before Ossett.

“We need to make sure we’re not switching on at half-time.

“We’ve got have our heads right at the first whistle, even the warm-up, because it’s another winnable game for us.”

Peacock will have another strong squad to pick from as Rob Henry continues his rehabilitation from viral meningitis by getting some first-team football at Squires Gate.

Assistant boss Trevor Sinclair played the full 90 minutes as a holding midfielder in the reserve team win over Nelson last Thursday as he bids to keep himself sharp.

Peacock said: “He likes to be involved and wants to play.

“He’s keeping himself fit so if the need arises he’s ready to step in.”
