Lancaster boss Brown wants his side to enjoy the ride

The Dolly Blues host Droylsden on Saturday hoping to make it six of the best after the 1-0 victory over Burscough on Tuesday night saw them leapfrog the Linnets into fifth.

Brown said: “They’ve (the players) got themselves into a fantastic position and they just need to go and enjoy it now.

“Let’s enjoy the ride and see where we end up.

“A couple more wins gets us really in the pack. We have played a couple more games but it gets us that little bit closer.

“We understand there’s going to be ups and downs, there’s still 17 or 18 games left and a lot of football to play.

“We did look like we were enjoying ourselves in the second half (on Tuesday night) and I thought every single one of them did their best.”

The win over Burscough was a battle for the Blues who improved as the game went on with Craig Carney’s header on 75 minutes making it 15 league points out of 15.

Brown said: “Burscough are a good team, they try and play the game the right way and they’ve got some good players.

“I think we showed them too much respect in the first half and we sat off them a little bit too much.

“Having said that we looked fairly comfortable and looked dangerous on the break.

“In the second half we came into our own and I thought there was only one team in it.

“I just thought we deserved the three points over the 90 minutes.”

Burscough are one of a number of sides to have numerous games in hand on the Dolly Blues.

But on a weekend when plenty of the play-off contenders face each other Brown hopes his side can continue to establish themselves at the sharp end of the table.

He said: “Teams have got to win their games in hand it’s as simple as that.

“Everybody’s got to play each other as well. Looking at the fixtures this weekend a lot of the teams in and around the play-offs play each other where as we’ve got Droylsden.

“Our game is just as dangerous and as tricky as the other games just it’s not against somebody that could do with the three points to get a play-off place.

“That’s no disrespect to Droylsden it’s just a fact we’re playing a team that’s midtable at this moment in time.”
