The front man netted his 13th of the season seven minutes from time to ensure The Shrimps took a point back north after a 1-1 draw at the Broadfield Stadium.

Miller, who had missed the last three games through suspension, led the line in tough conditions and struggled to make an impact in a largely physical and scrappy contest between two sides lacking in form.

But the striker popped up when it mattered to secure a much-needed point for Bentley’s side, showing great composure in a crowded penalty area late on.

The Shrimps boss said: “Sometimes we’ve left Shaun out of the team because the pitches haven’t been great.

“When the pitches are good we know his touch is very good and his movement is very good, but it’s hard for Shaun on a bobbly pitch when it’s bouncing up around his kneecaps.

“You could see that it was tough on Saturday because instead being able to lay it off with one touch and go in behind he was having to take a couple of touches and moves were breaking down.

“To get the best out of Shaun Miller you do need good pitches but what he has got is a knack of scoring goals.

“Like any good striker he was on the move from the corner and took a touch before a good finish. It was clinical.

“From the next corner it fell to him on his left foot and you’re thinking. ‘go and finish the job’ but he blazed it over on that occasion.

“Performance wise it wasn’t as good as Shaun Miller can produce but we know that he can score goals and he got us the point we thoroughly deserved.”
