He said: “It’s been a poor run results wise but as I’ve been saying I can’t be over critical of the players because the performances have been pretty good.

“We’ve had injuries, suspensions and decisions going against us and that little rub of the green that every team needs, that little bit of luck, we haven’t had it, it’s deserted us.

“Things have been stacked against us but the players have kept working hard and plugging away and they’ve got their just rewards today.

“It’s a fantastic win today and I’m pleased for the players because when you haven’t won in 10 you come in for plenty of stick.

“But I just told them to keep going the way they were because the law of averages said we’d turn a corner and that’s what we’ve done today.

“We’ve broken the cycle and it’s great to be back to winning ways.”

Bentley was made to sweat in the final moments with Francomb’s goal setting up a grandstand finish, Ade Azeez blazing over a great chance for an equaliser in five minutes of added time.

“Our game management wasn’t great, the clearance was poor and they’ve got the goal back and then you could sense the nervousness amongst the players and the fans.
