Jamie Devitt the big winner at Morecambe's end of season awards

The playmaker was named The Visitor’s Player of the Year, the Supporters’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year after starring for The Shrimps this season.

The former Hull man capped off a fine campaign personally with a stunning equaliser in the 1-1 draw with York earlier in the day as Jim Bentley’s side finished 21st in League 2.

Accepting his awards, Devitt thanked The Shrimps' fans and his fellow players.

The 25-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer and could have played his last game for the club, said: “It has been a disappointing season (for the team as a whole).

“We are happy you’ve stuck with us and we do appreciate that.

“I want to thank all the players. It’s the best bunch I’ve been with.”

His partnership with Shaun Miller has been central to some of Morecambe’s fine attacking play this season.

The 16-goal front man, who like Devitt is yet to sign a new deal, picked up the Golden Boot gong and the Sardines (away fans) Player of the Year.

The biggest cheer of the night however was for goalkeeper Barry Roche who won Goal of the Season for his last-gasp header against Portsmouth.

The long-serving number one also picked up the awards for Community Sports Player of the Year and Junior Reds Player of the Year.

Charlie Bailey was named Reserves Player of the Year while Ben Hedley won the Under 17s award and Lewis Tomlinson the Under 18s.

Club historian and statistician Lawrence Bland picked up the award for Clubman of the Year for his service since 1994.

There was also a special award for Dave and Kate Barker who are retiring after leading the safety team for 20 years.
