Injured Morecambe trio in contention to face Sheffield Wednesday

INJURED Morecambe trio Will Haining, Jason Price and Laurence Wilson are still in contention to feature in the Shrimps’ big FA Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

All three came off injured in Morecambe’s 2-1 win over Gillingham nearly a fortnight ago and missed Saturday’s draw at Plymouth but boss Jim Bentley has refused to rule any of them out ahead of the game at the Globe Arena on Sunday.

Bentley said: “Haining, Pricey and Laurence Wilson have a chance. Will and Jason are more likely to play but I’m not ruling Laurence out.

“There’s a little bit of time to go and we’ve got seven subs on Sunday. We’re training tomorrow and Saturday and we’ll see if they are fit enough to play and work from there,

“We’ve used lots of different formations all season and the lads have put a lot of hard work in so we’re adaptable.

“We’ll look at the personnel we’ve got and Sheffield Wednesday’s strengths and weaknesses and decide how we’re going to line up then.”

With the Peter McGuigan stand sold out, it looks as if it will be a bumper crowd at the Globe Arena to add to a live televised audience on ESPN.

The Shrimps boss said: “It’s the first time we’ll have been live in front of the cameras at the Globe Arena. There’s no other football on at that time in the country so a lot of eyes will be on the game. Hopefully we can go out there and get a positive result.”

Bentley’s side will go in search of place in the FA Cup second round sporting varying degrees of charity facial hair.

All are growing moustaches as part of the club’s Movember effort but some ‘taches are more developed than others according to Bentley.

He said: “The moustaches aren’t going too bad! Some are more advanced than others.

“A lot of clubs do it but it’s just individual players but here we’ve included all the players and backroom staff.

“Kevin Ellison’s strawberry blonde so couldn’t grow a moustache but he’ll die his mohawk red to match the colour of the shirts if we raise £500, We’re doing well and I’ve not donated yet.”

The club’s Movember figure currently stands at £399. To donate visit

Tickets for the Sheffield Wednesday match must be bought in advance and are available from the club shop at the Globe Arena.
