Morecambe picked up their first league win of the new season with a fine performance at Edgar Street.
Two goals in the last eight minutes of the opening period saw Jim Bentley’s side in a strong position at half time.
Danny Carlton gave the Shrimps the lead on 37 minutes with a stunning right foot strike. Carlton took the ball just outside the area and smashed an effort that flew past the diving Adam Bartlett.
Jevons then doubled the advantage on the stroke of half time with an excellent free kick from the edge of the area that beat the wall and flew into the bottom left hand corner of Barltett’s goal.
Stewart Drummond added a third on 64 minutes when he smashed home the loose ball after a Laurence Wilson corner was headed back across goal by Gary McDonald and only half cleared by the home defence.
Morecambe started superbly and were almost ahead in the first minute of the game. Phil Jevons crossed from the right and the ball hit the back of a Hereford defender and on to the left hand post with Adam Bartlett beaten.
Three minutes later Danny Carlton went close with a 30 yard effort that forced the home keeper into a decent save to tip the ball over the bar.
Hereford came back with Barry Roche having to make a neat save from Rob Purdie after a dangerous Joe Heath cross just evaded Joe Colbeck at the far post.
The home side forced a string of early corners at the start of the second half and Roche was called upon again to make a fine save from a Ryan Green header before Drummond calmed the nerves with the Shrimps’ third.
