The front man took the ball on the left hand side of the Hartlepool area and cut inside before curling a fine right-footed shot past Scott Flinders and into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

His second came nine minutes from time when he latched on to a long clearance to evade the challenge of two Hartlepool defenders and drill an unstoppable low shot to beat Flinders to his right.

The Shrimps made a bright start and after Redshaw’s opener Ryan Williams could have added a second on 27 minutes.

The midfielder latched on to the loose ball 20 yards from goal and drilled a rare left-footed effort inches wide of Flinders’s left-hand post.
