Morecambe Ladies went down 3-2 to Guiseley Vixens at Lancaster and Morecambe College on Sunday.

The Shrimps came out on the wrong side a frantic final 11 minutes in which four of the game’s five goals were scored.

The first real shot on goal had Shrimps ‘keeper Emma Reader scrambling to turn a curling effort round the post.

Morecambe came into the game however with Becky Whittingham firing just wide after good work from Sophie Fish.

For the visitors Aimi Beresford sent Kerrie Zserdicky through in the inside left position and she let fly thumping the post with Laura Callis on hand to clear the rebound.

It was Nick Barrett’s side however who took the lead on 25 minutes.

Guiseley ‘keeper Daniella Maslin raced out only to handle the ball outside her area with a quickly taken free-kick striking the crossbar – Morecambe following in to bundle the ball over the line.

The hosts nearly doubled their advantage shortly after Louise Hunt denying Megan Doherty with a last-gasp tackle before The Shrimps striker lobbed wide moments later.

Guiseley went in search of a leveller before the break but some fine defence saw Morecambe take a single-goal lead into the second half.

The Yorkshire side began to take the initiative after the break with Katie Wellham’s speculative looping shot from distance almost sneaking into the top corner.

Substitute Georgia Lupton, on for Doherty, should have done better with a shot that went high and wide before the visitors levelled to kick-off a dramatic conclusion.

An innocuous cross on 79 minutes was headed up rather than away by Jo Norris with Louise Hunt on hand to nod the ball home at the far post to level the scores.

Guiseley pushed looking to take the lead but it was Morecambe who went in front on the counter, Lupton’s shot wasn’t collected cleanly by Daniella Maslin with Hannah Paling on hand to score and make it 2-1.

The visitors were soon level however with Zserdicky given time space as the Shrimps backed off to fire past Reader.

Guiseley, who had come from 3-1 down to win 4-3 at Mossley Hill last time out, repeated the trick to break Morecambe hearts with Tanya Rich and Emma Reader tangling for a cross and the ball falling for Rebecca Kendell who drilled the ball home to give the Vixens the lead for the first time.

Unlike the hosts Guiseley saw the game out comfortably as Morecambe were left frustrated after an entertaining and absorbing match.
