Football greats come to town to honour Lancaster City legend

A bumper crowd is expected to celebrate the career of a Lancaster City legend at Giant Axe on Tuesday night.

Neil Marshall will lead a Dolly Blues side against a team of Liverpool Legends and Guests managed by former Reds boss Roy Evans.

Captain Marshall played his final competitive game for the Dolly Blues in the win over New Mills on Saturday having announced he is to retire at the end of the season due to an on-going battle with cancer.

A lifelong Liverpool fan, the central defender will line up against Anfield legends including Jan Mølby, David Fairclough, Alan Kennedy and Phil Neal.

They will team up with other former professionals including ex-Dolly Blues management duo Darren Peacock and Trevor Sinclair and Morecambe’s Jim Bentley and Ken McKenna against a Lancaster City Legends team captained by Marshall, who has made more than 400 appearances across a 10-year spell with his hometown club.

The City skipper’s side is set to include the likes of Mark Thornley, Farrell Kilbane, Paul Haddow, Kenny Mayers, Barrie Stimpson and Morecambe’s Alex Kenyon.

All entry will be pay on the gate on the night with entry £10 for adults and £5 for juniors/OAPs.

Kick-off is set for 7.15pm.
