Farsley 0-1 Lancaster City

Lancaster City recorded back-to-back away wins after a freak Ryan Serrant own goal gifted the Dolly Blues all three points in a blustery encounter devoid of chances at Throstle Nest.

The Farsley full-back’s lobbed deflection 21 minutes into the game was one of only two goal-bound efforts in a 90 minutes that was dominated by the awful playing conditions.

Andy Welsh had the first half chance of the game for the hosts as he sliced Lewis Nightingale’s free-kick well wide at the far post.

Ryan Winder had the chance to open the scoring for City but as his effort from Matty Poole’s knockdown looked destined for the net a last-ditch block from defender Spencer Harris tipped the ball just over the bar.

Serrant’s unfortunate interception of a pass to Tom Kilifin then looped high into the air in a strong wind, over keeper Tom Taylor and into the net for what would prove to be the decider.

The second half didn’t fair much better for goal-mouth action, with City now kicking into the wind.

Winder had an early effort from the edge of the box tipped around the post by Taylor, whilst late in the game Farsley forward Welsh ran a bobbling ball wide when though on goal and again sliced harmlessly well wide of the post.

Kilifin had a chance to seal the points late in the half as he raced in on goal but pulled up with a hamstring injury as he looked to pull the trigger.

A clean sheet in challenging conditions will be a positive for Darren Peacock’s side, but the worrying injury to Kilifin will be a blow as City head into the final month of the season.

Star Man: Neil Marshall

The Dolly blues next travel to Prescot Cables on Tuesday night.
