The key pair have signed contracts until the end of the 2016/17 season.

Goalkeeper Roche, 33, has made close to 350 league and cup starts for the Shrimps since signing from Chesterfield in 2008 and made national headlines earlier this year when he scored his first Football League goal with a last-gasp header to earn a point against Portsmouth.

Ellison, 37, was Morecambe boss Jim Bentley’s first signing in 2011 when he joined from Rotherham and has so far made more than 170 league and cup starts for the Shrimps, scoring close to 60 goals in that time.

Bentley said: “Both players have been superb servants for this club and I am delighted that they have signed on again for next season.

“They have both been excellent again this season and their experience is vital to us.

“They both love playing for this club and as well as being good players are great people to have around in the dressing room.

“We are only a young squad overall but these two are the first to offer advice and support for the younger players and that is important to us.

“I am delighted that they agreed to stay on.”
