Droylsden 1-1 Lancaster City

Lancaster City recorded a solid point but will have been disappointed not to have taken all three after they were held by 10-man Droylsden 1-1 at the Butchers’ Arms on Saturday.

Bloods’ full back George Bowyer was sent off late in the second half for a high studs up challenge on Jacob Gregory in a feisty footballing affair.

City started on the front foot and pressed high against a shaky defence that gave the ball away consistently throughout the match.

Ryan Winder had a chance from a giveaway after three minutes but shot straight at ‘keeper Craig Ellison just inside the box.

Joe Whittington threatened down the right flank and was unlucky to glance a header just wide of the far post.

Aaron Taylor was unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when he was scythed down in the box by last-man Jacob Wood, before City finally got a deserved break-through.

Gavin Clark received the ball just inside the Bloods’ half and played a neat ball through to Taylor in the right side of the area. The striker hit an accurate shot across Ellison into the far left corner of the net to give City the lead heading into the break.

The second half saw a slight turn in fortune for the Dollies who struggled to find much rhythm in the final period.

The hosts’ equaliser on 58 minutes came from the right flank as danger man Fernando Moke found it all to easy to cut in from the right side of the area and slide a ball across goal for Stephen Hall to convert from close range.

City pressed hard for a winner in the dying moments, Reece Pearce, Jamie Street, Danny Carlton and Clark all registering efforts on target in the final minutes, but everything was dealt with comfortably by the impressive Ellison.

The Dolly Blues next travel to Warrington tonight, Tuesday, before visiting Padiham in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
