College knocked out of LFA Amateur Cup on penalties

College AFC were beaten in the LFA Amateur Cup.

The College matched Rishton for the whole 90 minutes, and despite not having as much possession, created some very good chances.

They were denied time after time by the excellent visiting keeper, however.

The Rishton side also had good chances, but after 90 minutes the score remained goalless, so the tie went to penalties.

This proved closer than the game itself, with the winner being scored with the 15th spot kick to give Rishton the win by eight penalties to seven.

Caton United again had to travel, this time to Ribble Wanderers.

Caton got off to a sluggish start as they had four players unavailable for the game.

The game itself was quite physical at times, but once Caton got into their stride, there was only going to be one winner.

Nathan Jackson opened the scoring to give Caton a 1-0 half-time advantage, and the second half saw Caton improve and the goals started to come, with Jackson scoring his second, followed by a wonder goal from Guy Spence to make it 3-0.

Joe Bouskill made it 4-0 and the game was over with 20 minutes still remaining.

The Ribble side did pull one goal back, but Liam Jeffreys gave his side a four-goal cushion again when he scored the fifth.

Ribble scored the final goal to make it 5-2. The downside of the win was the sending off of a Caton defender for needless retaliation, after being goaded for most of the game by the player he was marking, with the score at 5-2.

In the Eric Wilson Senior Challenge Cup first round, Mayfield United showed the gulf between the Premier Division and Division One when they comprehensively beat Boys’ Club.

Boys’ Club, although not outclassed, were always second best with Rikki Ball scoring three times.

Anthony McCluskie and Daniel Martin added the other goals.

In round two, Mayfield will travel to play Highgrove this Saturday in what promises to be an interesting game.

In the Westmorland County Football Association Senior Cup second round, Kirkby Lonsdale played their second county cup game of the season after being re-instated after their first opponents played an ineligible player.

However, they were beaten again, this time losing 3-1 to Unison Athletic.

In the first round, Cartmel and District hammered Ambleside 6-0.

Joel Drinkall bagged a hat-trick with Carl Airey, Karl Davidson and Matthew Burrows scoring the other goals.
