City skipper Teague joins Chorley

LANCASTER City captain Andrew Teague has joined local rivals Chorley for a nominal fee.

After City introduced a new wage structure last week it was expected that the club’s two contracted players, Teague and winger Paul Jarvis, would leave the club.

City are in negotiations with AFC Fylde over the possible transfer of Jarvis.

Dolly Blues manager Tony Hesketh said: “All the non-contract players are free to go and would go with my blessing. But that situation hasn’t changed. The change in the wage structure means that four or five of the players on slightly more than expenses may leave the club but three quarters of the squad will not be affected.

“The finances have been managed extremely well and as this club has been through administration before we are doing the sensible thing by acting prematurely and cutting costs.”

With Teague’s departure, fellow defender Neil Marshall is expected to take over the captaincy.

City are due to host Chorley tomorrow, Tuesday, February 1, but the two clubs have agreed that Teague will not line up against his former club.
