Chris Doyle believes he's taken his chance in Morecambe defence

The promising central defender missed the defeat to Leyton Orient on Saturday with a knee injury but had impressed in the previous four matches.

Doyle said: “I think I’m doing alright. 
“I’ve played four games now and hopefully between now and the end of the season I’ll get a little more of a run.

“They’ve been tough games but no game’s easy.

“Now I’ve played and had a taste of it I just want to crack on now and carry on with my performances.

“I’ve had my chance now and I feel like I’ve taken it and hopefully I’ve done enough to stay in the team.”

There’s plenty of competition in the heart of the defence with Doyle, who spent time on loan at Chorley this season, getting his chance alongside Ryan Edwards after injuries to Adam Dugdale and Andy Parrish.

Shrimps boss Jim Bentley has rarely been able to select a settled defence this season, often switching between three and four at the back.

Doyle said: “There’s plenty of competition and I look up to all of them.

“It’s just about keeping going and trying to put good performances in.

“Either system is fine for me it’s just about playing. Two at the back or three at the back it’s about the team performance.”

The 21-year-old could return to the side against Plymouth Argyle on Good Friday and is expecting a tough test against the promotion-chasers as The Shrimps look to secure their own League 2 status.

He said: “It’s a big game and all we can do is our best and see what comes of it.

“It’s not in the lads heads about relegation, it never has been, but there’s still plenty to play for.

“We’ll be doing our best in the games between now and the end of the season.”
