The hosts won a disputed corner late on with Ruth Harrison heading home unmarked at the near post to hand Chorley the points.

Nick Barrett’s side had made a fast start with Becky Whittingham pulling a shot wide early on before Beth Fisher saw a goal ruled out for offside.

Laura Callis was next to go close for the visitors as she fired over the bar while Katie Wareing saw a shot go high and wide on the counter for Chorley.

Chances became harder to come by but Hannah Williamson had a couple of the best for Morecambe firing two shots narrowly the wrong side of first the crossbar and then the post.

Emma Reader was rarely troubled in the Morecambe goal as the referee brought the opening half to a close.

The Shrimps stopper was soon called into action in the second half however, saving well from Harrison as both sides upped the tempo.

It was Chorley who were enjoying a period of pressure and they went ahead when Reader got a hand to Vicky Coope’s shot but couldn’t prevent it from going in.

Three minutes later Morecambe were level as Sophie Fish found space in on goal and chipped the on-rushing Jen Doherty to equalise.

The visitors almost went in front when Whittingham’s free-kick nearly found Megan Doherty at the back post but it was Chorley who found the winner with Harrison’s header sealing the points for the hosts.

Morecambe currently sit 10th out of 12 in the Women’s Premier League Northern Division One ahead of hosting Guiseley this Sunday, February 15.
