Burnley's Conlan makes permanent Morecambe move

The left back impressed at the Globe Arena on loan in the second half of last season and has become Jim Bentley’s second summer signing after the arrival of Dean Winnard from Accrington.

The Northern Ireland Under 21 internaitional said: “The manager showed great faith to bring me in at the end of last season and the fact he gave me as much game time as he did gave me a strong positive feeling towards him.

“The group of lads and staff at the club helped me settle in really well into a new environment.

“I really enjoyed my experience last year and know with the quality that’s in the dressing room we can do a lot better this year than what we showed at the end of last season.

“For me I just want to keep working hard and get a good pre-season under me to set me up for a long season and hopefully be better prepared for the physical side of it this season.

“The first team is a massive difference from Under 21s football but I enjoyed the challenge and I know the more games I play and the experience I get from playing with some of the players in our team will only make me a better player.”

Conlan, 20, initially joined The Shrimps for a month in January having spent the first half of the season on loan with Scottish Championship side St Mirren. He made 14 appearances for the Shrimps in total.

Shrimps boss Bentley: “Luke came in on loan last season and put in some strong performances.

“He’s young, got plenty of potential and will only get better the more he plays and adapts to football at League 2 level.

“He’s a good lad with a good attitude and he has a great desire to succeed and progress.

“We’re very pleased he’s agreed to join us and together we are looking to improve.”

Conlan is the 12th player under contract at the Globe Arena for next season as Bentley reshapes a squad that finished 21st in League 2 last season after a shocking 2106 saw them slide alarmingly down the table.
