Bunney follows in grandfather’s footsteps

LIKE grandfather, like son, so the famous saying nearly goes.

That’s certainly the case for young Lancaster City striker Joe Bunney, who has represented England Schoolboys half a century after his grandad.

The highly-rated 18-year-old wore the number nine shirt in his Three Lions debut in the 0-0 friendly draw with Australia at AFC Wulfrunians in Wolverhampton on Sunday morning.

Almost 50 years ago to the day, in February 1962, grandad Allan Grafton, 67, made his debut for England Schoolboys against Scotland.

Unlike his grandson however, Allan was at the other end of the field, making three appearances for his country between the sticks as a goalkeeper.Bunney is part of the England U18 Centenary squad which will take on Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Northern Ireland in March and April.

England’s home games, against Scotland on April 12 at Newcastle’s Sports Direct Arena and the Republic of Ireland on April 26 at Brighton’s Amex Stadium, will be televised live on Sky Sports.
