Brothers show Ability Counts as they lift county cup
Two Cockerham brothers helped their football team lift a county cup.
James and Damian Galt were part of the North West Scorpions team that won the U16 Ability Counts Cup at Lancashire FA headquarters in Leyland.
The competition is an opportunity for players with a disability or impairments in Lancashire and the surrounding areas to become involved in football.
The Scorpions team was made up of five deaf and three visually impaired teenagers between 12 and 16 years of age who play together every week at the North West centre of excellence for futsal for deaf and hearing-impaired players which is based in Preston.
Saint Aidan’s Church of England High School Preesall pupils James and Damian, both deaf, are part of a team with players that come from around the area including Liverpool, Southport and Blackpool.
James acts as the communicator for the team as he is deaf but can communicate orally and use sign language.
Lauren Hall, from the Wirral, was the only girl in the tournament and she scored a brilliant goal in the second game to help the team win 4-0.
