IN THE Premier Division, title favourites and league leaders Highgrove, fresh from their midweek 1-0 cup win over Marsh United which went to extra-time, took on Cartmel.
Although the scoreline was 2-1 to Highgrove, it did not reflect on the game as the win was easier than it suggests.
Highgrove hit the woodwork twice, Broadley and Ogley had great chances to have scored with only the ’keeper to beat.
Highgrove’s defence only allowed Cartmel one shot on goal from which Dean Richards scored.
Dan Broadley and war horse Russell Mitchell scored the goals to keep Highgrove on top.
They meet their nearest challengers Bowerham/Furness United this Saturday and a win for Highgrove would just about settle the championship but a win for the Bowerham side would open up the race for the title with both sides still having four games to play. Bowerham have the easier run-in.
Bentham and TIC Dynamos, both battling to stay in the division, met in a game that neither side could afford to lose.
Bentham, who had an excellent midweek win away at Swarthmoor, had moved up the table three places, but only two points from a relegation place.
