Brighouse Town have taken some big scalps this season including Derby County, Wolves, and have takenthe Lancashire champions Blackburn Rovers to penalties, and have an excellent home record at the Dual Seal Stadium.

However, a full-strength and fired up Morecambe proved difficult to beat and proved that they can provide a good test for any team on their day.

In the bright sunshine it was Morecambe who made the better start and efforts from Megan Doherty and Higginson had to be dealt with by the Brighouse keeper.

Once the early frantic start had settled down Brighouse also had good chances with Proud and Redgrave snapping efforts at the in-form Beth Fisher in the Morecambe goal.

With these games normally being physical affairs there were no signs of what was to come as the first half ended goalless and pretty even.

Early in the second half, after a collision with the Brighouse keeper Doherty retaliated and the referee had no choice but dismiss both girls.

The changes then meant Yasmin Swarbrick was to go up front and Amy Cambray into midfield.

This disrupted Morecambe for a while and in the melee Brighouse took the lead when Charlotte Proud prodded the ball under the advancing Fisher to put the home side one up.

After another couple of Brighouse chances were saved by the excellent Fisher it was Morecambe who finished the game stronger and goals from Higginson and Swarbrick meant that Brighouse have never beaten Morecambe in the four games they have played each other.

The win keeps Morecambe fourth in the table and will end their campaign on 20th May at home to potential title winners, Hull City.
