Jim Bentley believes AFC Wimbledon’s shock win over Burton Albion on Tuesday night sums up League 2.
The Morecambe boss thinks it will once again be a tight division this season with the Dons ending the table-topping Brewers’ unbeaten start with a 3-0 victory evidence of that.
The Shrimps travel to The Cherry Red Records Stadium on Saturday knowing that Neil Ardley’s side will have their tails up after ending a four-match winless run in style.
Bentley said: “Their win over Burton just sums up the league for me.
“Wimbledon hadn’t won for four games, Burton are flying and for them to concede three hasn’t been heard of.
“Right across the board its up and down and everyone is capable of beating anyone else that’s why I don’t believe in stuff like we should be beating Mansfield and things like that.
“We’ve got to be realistic. Before a ball was kicked we were favourites to go down. In house we’re confident in our own ability.
“I think we’ll improve on last season, we’ve got more in our locker. But every game is going to be tough and Saturday will be no different.
“We’ll go down on Friday and train on our way down. We’ll prepare right and when the whistle goes at three o’clock whatever 11 that’s been picked will try and win the game.”
Ardley raised a few eyebrows as his summer recruitment saw him pair Bournemouth loanee and former Crawley striker Matt Tubbs and League 2 favourite Adebayo Akinfenwa in attack.
Tubbs, the League 2 player of the month for August, is suspended however after being sent off for two bookable offences at Burton.
Bentley said: “He’s (Tubbs) a good player and will score goals at this level, he’s proven that already.
“They’ve invested over the summer in him and Akinfenwa, it’s a very good strike force, and thankfully Tubbs is out because he’s in good form at the minute.
“But I should imagine that whoever comes in will be a very good player.”
As for the Shrimps Bentley is hopeful Jack Redshaw and Shaun Beeley will return after missing the last two games while Laurence Wilson remains a month to six weeks away from a return after damaging ankle ligaments.
