Morecambe will have to be wary of a familiar face when they travel to Torquay on Saturday, according to boss Jim Bentley.

Rene Howe, who had a loan spell with the Shrimps a few seasons ago from Peterborough, equalled the Gulls’ best-ever scoring run when he scored for the seventh game in a row last Saturday.

Bentley said: “Rene proved at times with us that he is a quality striker.

“He is bang in form at the moment and there is no doubt we will have to watch him closely at the weekend.

“Torquay are always difficult to beat on their home ground and it’s never the easiest of trips for us. But we can take great confidence from our recent performances.

“I have said all along that we can match anyone in this league on our day and we have done that in the last few games.”

Bentley will be without Richard Brodie for the trip to the English Riviera, with the striker serving the second game of a three-match ban after his sending off for violent conduct against Southend.

Kevin Ellison will also be suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Rotherham on Tuesday night.

Jack Redshaw is doubtful after picking up a head injury at the New York Stadium but Lewis Alessandra could return to the side after missing Tuesday’s defeat with a hamstring problem.

Ryan Williams’ remains unavailable as the club are still waiting for the international clearance needed to complete his move to the Globe Arena.
