The Fleetwood stopper’s loan expires after the game against Stevenage on Saturday with Bentley determined to keep the Shrimps’ Wembley winner with number one Barry Roche ruled out for the season.

Finances are a stumbling block however meaning players could leave the club on loan to free up space in the boss’ budget.

With the January transfer window also opening on Saturday sorting Davies’ future is the number one priority for Bentley.

He said: “I’d like to keep Scott Davies but there’s other little issues, finances being the main thing.

“He’s keen to stay, he’s really enjoyed his time here, he’s done well for us and we love him here.

“He’s fitted in with the group well, the staff like him and the fans certainly do too.

“Barry’s injury is for the rest of the season and we’ve got Andreas Arestidou but we need another ‘keeper.

“Scott ticks all the right boxes but we haven’t got an open jar of money or a blank cheque that means we can just go and spend money willy nilly, we can’t do it.

“We’ll try our best but it’ll have to come from a bit of wheeling and dealing.

“One or two people might have to go for people to come in. That’s the way it is, I’m not going to moan about it but I do want to freshen the squad up.
“We’ve got young (Chris) Doyle out at the moment who’s doing well at Chorley but I think there might be one or two others just to give us the finances to bring one or two in and certainly Scott Davies is one I want to keep.”
