Morecambe boss Jim Bentley said victory at Southend on Saturday was one of the highlights of his season.
Andy Fleming scored the only goal of the game as the Shrimps ended their League 2 campaign on a high, passing last season’s points total of 56 with victory in Essex.
Bentley said: “My main focus over the past few weeks has been to pass last season’s points tally of 56 and I’m delighted that we have done that.
“We’ve finished a place below where we did last year but the extra points mean progress and with a reduced squad this season that has to be something to celebrate.
“For the first half an hour or so of this game we weren’t really at it but once we scored we never really looked in trouble and I think it was one of our best performances of the season overall.
“We played some excellent football. We passed it around really well in midfield and at the back I thought Will Haining and Andy Parrish were outstanding.
“It’s always a positive to end the season with a win because it means we go into pre-season on a high note.”
