Jim Bentley praised Ryan Williams after his stunning free kick put the Shrimps on the road to victory at Bury on Saturday.
After missing a penalty in the shoot out against Carlisle in midweek Williams shook off the disappointment to add to his growing list of superb long range strikes.
Bemtley said: “I’ve always said there is a fine line at this level between winning and losing games and sometimes it takes a bit of extra quality to get the maximum points.
“When you have someone who can take free kicks like Ryan then you always have a chance of a goal out of nothing and we saw that on Saturday.
“He was disappointed after missing a penalty in midweek which surprised us all because you would put your money on him to score them.
“But he didn’t let it get to him and he was happy to show what he can do again from a free kick.
“We see him do it every day in training and we knew what he could do when he joined us. He has a great work ethic and practices for hours and it is great to see the rewards.’’
Bentley was also quick to praise his side’s work ethic after the Gigg Lane win.
He said: “The pleasing thing for me was that once we got our noses in front you could see the momentum was with us.
“Their heads went down and they got a bit jittery and we saw the game out while adding another goal at the death.
“The 2-0 scoreline probably flattered us a bit but we’ll take the three points and while the wins keep coming we are happy and we can enjoy our weekends.”
