Bentley: I know it’s a results business

Jim Bentley knows his status as a club legend will count for nothing unless his Morecambe side start winning again sooner rather than later.

The Shrimps’ patchy form hit a new low with their FA Cup exit at Dover last time out with Bentley determined his side will end a run of four games without a win when Bury visit the Globe Arena on Saturday.

Bentley: “It was great when I was getting manager of the month but as soon as you don’t win in three or four people say you haven’t got a clue.

“I know it’s a results business and I know my relationship with the fans stands for nothing if we’re loosing games.

“But I’m big enough and strong enough to take it on the chin.

“No-one hurts more than me, it’s my job, it’s my livelihood, it runs my life and it runs my family’s life to a certain extent.

“But I’m determined, I’m passionate, I want to succeed, I want the club do well on and off the field and I’ll certainly continue to give it my all.

“I’m sure we’ll get back to winning ways sooner rather than later.”

The Shrimps boss believes his side aren’t far away from turning things around.

Bentley said: “It’s not as if we’re being steamrollered, we’ve haven’t been battered by anyone this season.

“The thing that concerns me most is I don’t like loosing games, I want to get back winning ways.

“I’ll take a scrappy 1-0 win now.

“Everyone wants to win three or 4-0 but I’ll take playing poorly and winning 1-0 just to break the cycle, get everyone up again and get going.

“It happens, Brendan Rodgers is coming in for stick at Liverpool because they haven’t got going, you look at Tottenham, even Everton to a certain extent where people were questioning Roberto Martinez.

“Even in our league a team the size of Shrewsbury went eight hours without scoring away from home.

“We’re not one of the big boys at our level and we’ll have our ups and downs.”

The Dover defeat however was a real low point with Bentley believing his side need to put it firmly behind them with a positive result against Bury.

He said: “I was very angry, frustrated and disappointed.

“But as the days have gone by we’ve got it out our systems.

“You can’t look back in football, you’ve got to look forward.

“I was disappointed for the great following that went down but it happens.

“We’ve been at the right end of beating teams at a higher level than us in the league cup.

“But I was desperate for an FA Cup run so it’s really disappointing.”
