Jim Bentley blasted an “embarrassing” Morecambe performance as they were easily beaten by Exeter at the Globe Arena on Sunday.

The Shrimps were well off the pace from start to finish as they Grecians cruised to a 2-0 win with Bentley pulling no punches in his assessment.

He said: “It was a poor result and a poor performance, our worst of the season.

“In the end I couldn’t wait for the final whistle to be honest, I was slightly embarrassed by our performance today.

“It wasn’t good enough with or without the ball, we didn’t work hard enough, we didn’t get in their faces.

“They’re a good footballing side but we were very lacklustre. Right throughout it wasn’t good enough as a group.

“I’m not just going to lay the blame at the players. I pick the team, I’ve got to take the pats on the back when it’s going well but when it’s going wrong I’ve got to be open to criticism.

“I’ve made changes today, a few were enforced, but we freshened it up too because one or two players looked jaded in midweek but we’ve got to have a better response that we had today.

“If I paid my money today I’d be booing us off. It was that poor.

“There was a couple of positives, Laurence Wilson playing 90 and if it hadn’t been for Scott Davies it could have been a lot more.”
