Jim Bentley admitted his Morecambe players were “flat” after Iain Hume’s late goal denied them all three points at Fleetwood.
The Shrimps put in one of their best performances of recent months in the Lancashire derby on Saturday and with the 2-2 draw picked up a valuable point in their battle against relegation from League 2.
But it almost felt like a defeat as even after Hume’s equaliser Robbie Threlfall saw an effort cleared off the line with almost the last kick of the game.
Obviously disappointed, Bentley tried to focus on the positives. He said: “The lads are a little bit flat in the dressing room because we were 2-1 up.
“It got caught under Hume’s legs but he’s a good player who knows where the back of the net is and it doesn’t matter how it goes in and he’s scuffed it over one way or another.
“But the biggest thing is virtually the last kick of the game for Robbie Threlfall.
“Little Jack attracted both defenders and shifted it to Robbie and he got it over the ‘keeper and some fantastic defending has stopped it going in.
“That’s why things are a little bit flat but I’m pleased with the attitude, how they carried the game plan out and that we looked a threat. There were loads of positives.
“We could have had more but we take a point and move on.”
